A commune is the municipality in Sweden where an organization's board is located. However, there is nothing to prevent the business from being conducted in one municipality and having its registered office in another.

The commune is important for which district court a possible lawsuit application or liquidation must be made. It is also in the county of residence that the income tax return is submitted and examined.

The commune also governs where annual general meetings are to be held, unless otherwise decided.
